Provisional Cast on

With contrast yarn and a crochet, crochet chain a few longer than the required cast on sts:

With your needle, pickup inside each chain:

Until you have the required sts:

Work with your yarn:

When you will need the provisional sts, you will undo the crochet chain to pickup all sts:

(undo the end of the chain, and the crochet chain will ‘unzip’ naturally, leaving live loops that you will put onto your needle, one at a time.)
